This show is the eighth in a series of exhibitions hosted by Assar Art Gallery in close collaboration with other galleries as it relocates to a new space.
This collection, featuring limited-edition lino prints and drawings by Sahar Bardaie, delves into the concept of wind in a general sense while examining the specific role of Bad-e Saba as a “good wind” (in contrast to “bad wind”), in particular, through diverse conceptual and formal lenses. The project is the result of an extended process of conceptual, formal, and technical exploration, pushing the boundaries between objective reality and subjective perception.
Conceptually, setting aside common assumptions about wind opens the possibility of viewing it as a lived experience rather than just an invisible physical phenomenon. This perspective explores wind at the convergence of individual and collective empirical knowledge and sensory perception.
From a formal and technical standpoint, Bardaie uses her contemporary drawing approach and the process-driven technique of lino printing to offer a fresh interpretation of line and its spatial presence. How and where lines are placed within the white paper reveal Bardaie’s distinct aesthetic language and it is through their visual formation that they evoke the movement of wind, capturing a dynamic interplay between order and natural chaos.
In Sahar Bardaie’s research-oriented and process-driven approach, the creative process holds as much significance as the final artworks, constituting an important part of the entire collection. As a result, this exhibition invites viewers to immerse themselves in the creative journey, observing and reflecting on the artist’s thought process while analyzing the subject from their own perspective. This engagement enables them to experience the drawings and prints in a fresh and defamiliarized manner.
